Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago

Garfield Park Conservatory is conveniently located just 10 minutes from downtown Chicago and off the green line Central Park stop. It is a beautiful desert oasis during the inevitable Midwestern cold chill. It offers six multi-faceted greenhouses and two grand exhibition halls and is also available for special occasions — weddings, reunions, and business meetings. Support Chicago’s great park system for free, with additional free parking available. Be prepared to be awed by cacti in the desert house, lush ferns in the fern room, and one of the country’s largest double coconut palm in the palm house. The conservatory is great for children alike, featuring many daily activities and also the popular Children’s Garden.

A spectacular upcoming event held by Garfield Park Conservatory is the 3rd Annual Sweet Saturdays, February 5th and February 12th. Sweet Saturdays focuses on plants that provide ingredients to sweet treats such as bananas, vanilla beans, cinnamon bark, and chocolate tree. There will be live music, tastings, and hands on activities including homemade scratch and sniff necklaces and Valentine’s day cards. In addition, there will be sugar tastings from local producers right here in Chicago.

Another way to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and serenity of the Garfield Park Conservatory is to enjoy some “me” time during your visit. Pack a journal and find a cozy spot in one of the greenhouses to sit and write or bring your camera to capture some of the beauty and let your inner artist shine. Either alone, with friends, or children, the Garfield Park Conservatory truly has something to offer everyone.
