I spent most of my childhood in Kansas City, which means I spent many summers chowing down on feasts of barbecue. On my first trip to Moe’s Original BBQ, I was excited to see how their southern style barbecue compares to the Kansas City style that I know and love. Moe’s has a very fun and friendly atmosphere. Upon entering, I was greeted by a small crowd of enthusiastic football fans. The downtown location has a television at every corner for game days, beanbag toss, a few arcade games, and a large patio for warm nights. The menu is displayed at the bar along with a small chalkboard, which has the specials of the day written on it. You can choose between a variety of sandwiches, meat platters and side dishes. I made sure to bring my barbecue loving family so that I could sample a few things from the menu. I tried a bite of the brisket sandwich and the spare ribs. I thought the ribs were good, but could have used an extra punch of flavor. The brisket sandwich however, was really moist and tasty. I ordered a platter, which came with hot links, cornbread and two sides. I really enjoyed everything on my platter! The hot links were a little spicy and not too sweet or saucy.
One thing I like about Moe’s southern style food is that the meat is covered in the perfect amount of sauce. It’s not too 
messy and you’re not left with a puddle of sauce when you’re done. I also love that they serve cornbread instead of white bread. Moe’s cornbread is probably one of my favorite things on their menu. It’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a nice amount of spice and herbs mixed in. No matter what entrée you decide on, make sure to order a few sides. The baked beans and mashed sweet potatoes were my two favorites. I probably could have eaten three dishes of their beans! Some of the football fans at the restaurant commented on how good the banana pudding was. I’m going to make sure to try it next time.
I’m happy to say that I’m now a fan of both Kansas City and southern style barbecue. I’d highly recommend Moe’s for game day or a fun night out with friends. There are three locations in the Denver area. I visited the downtown location on 6th Avenue and Broadway. Moe’s can also be found in Englewood and Lakewood.
