I have a serious love of anything with sequins, I’m from the school of more is more. I also adore vintage, and shop at thrift and resale stores often.
After checking my coat at Yuletide Madness, I was waiting in line for a cocktail when I spotted Ann Principe in the most fantastic dress!!! I literally wanted to rip it off her back and run! It was perfect for any holiday party! Bell sleeved mini dresses are all the rage in Hollywood now. Carrie Underwood wore a similar sequined dress to an awards show last month. When I asked Ann where she found this amazing find, she told me her closet! It’s a vintage Badgley Mischka from the early nineties, but looks similar to dresses out this season by Philip Lim and Aidan Mattox.
While dancing to live music by Kristen And The Noise, I saw Berni Schnider. She was also wearing a sequin dress, but hers had a plunging neckline and the illusion of a banded waist. Banded waists create hourglass figures, and are flattering on all body types. I was shocked to find out that her dress was also vintage! Heidi Klum was just seen wearing a Blumarine dress in gold that looked nearly identical to Berni’s dress!
When investing in black tie or cocktail dresses, always think about the longevity of the dress. If you can see yourself wearing it for years to come, go ahead and splurge. Always remember to immediately clean any stains, store at room temperature, and keep in a garment bag. This will keep your dress looking pristine.
Diamonds are a girls best friend, and Emily Villava chose two vintage sparklers to compliment her Cynthia Steffe dress. She told me that she found both pieces at an estate sale for a fraction of the retail price. Estate sales are great places to find vintage jewelry. Often you can find pieces as much as 80% off retail. Check the website EstateSales.Net to find sales in your area.
Whether you are wearing something new or vintage, sequins will always keep you looking fashionable and fabulous!
