If you like shopping for eclectic finds, Greenheart Shop is your go-to place.
There you will find clothing, jewelry, home accessories, books, body products and more. So, are you thinking…I know Chicago has boutiques galore, what’s so special about THIS one? Well, readers, I am glad you asked…
Greenheart opened in October 2007 and is Chicago’s first eco-friendly, fair trade, non profit shop. The goal of fair trade is to offer quality products at affordable pricing to the others, while paying fair compensation to the producers. By cutting out the middleman the shop is able to keep prices low and pay 15-30% of the retail price to producers. The rest of the retail price covers basic expenses such as rent, wages, and other costs of doing business.
At Greenheart, your shopping dollars support artisans and farmers across the world. The store merchandises products from artisans in over 60 different countries.
You don’t have to live in Chicago, in order to support Greenheart. Go to their website and check out the selection of online buys- you won’t be disappointed.
If you do live in Chicago, you may be interested in volunteering at Greenheart. As a non-profit, the shop needs volunteers to help with the daily operations of the business and to advocate and educate others on fair trade. If you would like additional information on volunteer opportunities, send an email to info@greenheartshop.org.
