Paula Hian Paris

On Saturday, I had the opportunity to preview the Paula Hian Paris Fall/Winter 2010 collection of unique day and evening wear at the showroom, a hidden gem in Manayunk.

Paula Hian

Paula Hian, a native of Philadelphia, has creativity in her DNA.  The daughter of a classical musician and a photographer, Hian studied art history and fashion.   The designer, who travels frequently to Paris where her stunning garments are manufactured,  once said that she comes to Europe often for it’s “sensuousness.”  Paula Hian is an internationally-recognized designer whose studio and boutique you will find nestled into the hills of Manayunk, PA, and whose edgy, yet distinctively sophisticated creations have been worn by stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Carrie Underwood and Brooke Shields. After having built a name for herself in New York, this FIT graduate is currently in the midst of taking France by storm. Hian’s elegant day and evening attire, always inspired by contemporary elegance, can be found at her showroom in Manayunk, as well as in numerous specialty boutiques around the country.

Paula Hian majored in art history at Northwestern University and upon graduation, she then enrolled in New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. There she was selected to go to Paris where she was awarded first prize for the USA in the coveted competition, “Concours International des Jeunes Créateurs de Mode.” The winning dress is in the permanent collection in the Louvre. As a Francophile myself, I understand the seductive powers of Paris.  This no doubt inspired pieces from her latest collection.

The collection featured beautiful knits and structured jackets for day, and standout evening gowns in flowing fabrics.  With the fall social season kicking into high gear in Philadelphia, one is sure to find something special at the Paula Hian Paris.  Be sure to drop by showroom at                         106 Gay Street in Manayunk.
