Miss A Columnist

Francesca Clough moved from England 8 years ago to attend law school. Having graduated in 2004, she now works for a firm in the Financial District. She recognizes that balance can sometimes be hard to find, but is always attempting to achieve it. To that end, she admits that she is a big planner in order to fit everything, and everyone in.

An admitted shopaholic, Francesca has a passion for fashion and styling, trying new restaurants, and enjoys attending cultural events. She finds volunteering at a children’s hospital each week a rewarding and humbling experience. Having a previous job as a flight attendant for Virgin Atlantic out of London, she also enjoys travel, when time allows it, and feels that even short day or weekend trips can provide a fresh perspective and a welcome break from the daily grind. Francesca believes that the city of San Francisco has so much to offer, and its close proximity to Wine Country and Lake Tahoe allow for a wide spectrum of opportunity.

Fall Trends 2010: Sheer

It may seem counter-intuitive to wear sheer fabrics in the cooler months but many designers have created pieces that that pair heavier fabrics with sheer, which make them perfect for Fall. Paris, London, and New York fashion weeks all showcased sheer fabrics for the Fall 2010 season, often with pieces that easily transition from Summer to Autumn.

If worn correctly, sheer fabrics can look elegant and sexy.  Remember that sheer fabrics are naturally revealing, so be careful how you wear them.  Sheer does not necessarily mean voile fabrics, many designers, like Julien MacDonald, have incorporated lace into a look.

How to wear:

  • Choose pieces with sheer necklines and/or sleeves
  • Wear a sheer blouse under a knit top or dress
  • Choose a top or dress that has sheer paneling in the body and wear a contrasting colored tank underneath.
