Movie Night at The Mayan Theatre in Denver

Mayan Theatre main auditorium.

The Mayan Theatre is my absolute favorite place to see a movie in Denver. The experience of seeing a movie here is nothing like going to the megaplexes that most of us are used to. The Mayan is located in central Denver near the Baker District. There are only three screens, but the statement quality, not quantity definitely applies here. There are always three fantastic independent films to choose from. It can be a great chance to see a high quality film before it moves to wide release. Currently, you can pick between Mesrine: Killer Instinct, The Tillman Story, and Animal Kingdom, all of which have received excellent reviews.

The fully stocked bar and historic architecture make the experience extra special. Before settling into the screening room, head upstairs to visit the bar and café area. They offer a nice selection of cocktails and beer that you are more than welcome to enjoy in the comfort of your theater seat. Or you can grab a table to drink and chat before the movie starts. This building has been around since 1930 and still stays true to its original Art Deco style. The main auditorium is so cozy and beautiful that I could watch movie after movie in there! An evening at the Mayan will cost you $10 per each adult ticket, which is about the same as other movie theaters in the area. If you’re interested in seeing a great independent film while sipping on a tasty beverage, visit their website for ticket information and show times.
