A Big Easy Brunch at Big Jones in Chicago

Do you want to enjoy a little bit of the Big Easy in the Windy City? Check out Big Jones, a N’awlins style restaurant, located in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood.

Big Jones in Chicago

I had the pleasure of partaking in Big Jone’s Sunday Brunch — it was incredible! I told one of my girlfriends, “If you like Wishbone (Chicago’s southern food staple), you will LOVE Big Jones.” There were sooo many wonderful menu items to select from, that the fam and I had a difficult time narrowing it down.

Where do I begin? We had the Fried Green Tomatoes (one of my all-time faves) as an appetizer. Those came adorned with pickled shrimp and were seasoned to perfection. I indulged in the creole ham and cheese omelet, potatoes O’Brien and the french toast. Please believe this was no ordinary french toast — they were prepared with honey-pecan granola, cane syrup and Kilgus Farmstead cream. It was all to die for.

My granddad had the Country Breakfast which included eggs, ham, cheese grits, greens, cornbread and gravy. Dad sampled the Eggs New Orleans which was a selection of crab cakes on fresh popovers (I had never heard of a popover before, but it looked like a really good croissant), eggs, béarnaise sauce and potatoes O’Brien. Mom had the shrimp and grits and sweet potato biscuits!

I must warn you — parking in Andersonville can be a challenge. But, we lucked out and found an empty spot right in front of the restaurant. Despite this potential difficulty, I strongly recommend that you check out this brunch. The food, service and ambiance were all on point. You won’t be disappointed!

I will definitely be going back to check out their Tuesday Fried Chicken Night. Bon Appetit magazine named Big Jones as a Top 10 Place for Fried Chicken in 2010. I will have to judge that for myself! Then there is that strawberry shortcake that is pictured below….sigh.

Big Jones also offers awesome specials for kids. The little ones eat free every night from 4 to 7! And Big Jones is a Certified Green Restaurant. You can’t top that….

All that being said….who is joining me?
