But wait, why should you stop there?
Too many women feel like they can’t wear make-up to the beach, but it is just as important to your summer look as your suit is. The key is to look put-together and natural. Let’s face it, unless you are some miracle of creation like Victoria Secret model Giselle who is blessed with a perfect complexion, we all could use a little something to make us look more naturally beautiful. So here is my formula for an “I just wake up and look this beautiful” face that will last all day through the sun and ocean spray!
1.) First and foremost, you must remove all make-up that may be caked on from your past make-up adventures. When you’re under the hot sun, the first thing to melt will be old eyeliner or mascara that is hiding in your lashes. Use a great eye make-up remover like Almay Oil Free Eye Make-Up Remover Pads, which I love!
2.) Once your have a fresh canvas, apply sunscreen. If you don’t wear sunscreen everyday, consider this as your reminder. Apply waterproof sunscreen evenly on your face. The sunscreen not only will protect your skin from the sun, but also will act as a base for the rest of your beach-beauty look. Wait 5 minutes to let the sunscreen settle before applying the rest of your make-up.
3.) Use a medium- to full-coverage concealer that is the same color as your skin (not lighter). I like Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer. Using a sponge to ensures a smooth application. Dab the sponge into the concealer, look up and apply under the eyes as well as on the eyelid. The key to this application is looking up while you dab the sponge back and forth over the under eye area. This technique ensures you will not get a cakey finish in any lines or wrinkles you may have under your eyes (I know this doesn’t pertain to you, but hey, some people are less fortunate!). Feel free to use the concealer on any other discolored spots on the skin.
4.) Apply a pressed powder with a large powder brush to set everything. I use NARS Powder Foundation.
5.) Next use a bronze light reflecting powder (my favorite is MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Powder) wherever the sun would naturally hit your face (Cheek bones, sides of forehead and a little on the nose and chin). If your feeling a little crazy put some on your shoulders and on your cleavage line to give the illusion of a larger bust line.
6.) Curl your lashes and apply mascara. Curling your lashes will be essential to this “natural” look because without any other eye make-up, your lashes need to POP!!! You also should make sure to use waterproof mascara, the last thing you want is raccoon eyes after a couple of hours under the sun! Apply mascara on both top and bottom moving in a side-to-side motion to get the most flawless application. My new favorite mascara for the beach is Cover Girl’s Waterproof Lash Exact. Not only is it super affordable, it makes your lashes look longer in the most natural way!
7.) Your final step to beach perfection is, of course, lip gloss! The best beach-perfect gloss is one that is not sticky, moisturizes, is sheer and is long-lasting. One of my favorite glosses for the beach is MAC Lipgelee. Try going for a pretty light pink or coral shade, which is all the rage right now.
Now you are all ready to hit the beach, you beauty! Let the head turning begin!!!
