Rapunzel, Rapunzel Let Down Your Hair

For the past month, I have refused to use a blow dryer or a brush. I may style hair for a living, but there is nothing I despise more than styling my own hair. Since I have been boycotting blow dryers, I’ve been wearing the easiest, chicest, and trendiest style. This takes me no more than five minutes to complete and every time I wear my hair like this, I get tons of compliments. What is this incredible, earth shattering, easy new style? It’s a side braid with my favorite thing, texture!

This is the new “It” style for Spring 2010. It’s everywhere- Alexander Wang was the first to debut it in his S/S 2010 Runway show, Zara and H&M have it featured in their current campaigns and celebs like Ashley Olsen, Molly Sims, and Rachel McAdams have all been wearing it on the red carpet.

To get this rocker princess look requires only two things; a texturizing spray, I like GHD Sea Salt Spray, and an elastic that matches your hair color. After you get out of the shower towel dry your hair and spray the texturizing spray all over your hair. Flip hair over and scrunch to encourage waves and texture. If you have time, let hair air dry, otherwise, rough dry with the blow dryer. Once hair is dry, lightly tease the crown. You want volume at the top, that’s what makes this look ‘modern’. Gather hair at the nape and start braiding to one side, keep the braid loose. Once you get to the end, tie an elastic around the bottom, and lightly pull the braid apart. This gives added texture and an undone look.

I have been wearing my hair braided to work, running errands, out at night, and on dates. It can be dressed up with jewelry and heels or dressed down with jeans and boots. It’s completely versatile, feminine, pretty, and fun. Most importantly it’s so easy and requires no heat tools!! If you want to look like you just stepped off the runway, wear a textured side braid this spring!
