Sneak Peek: Jean Paul Gaultier Collection for Target

I recently got a look at the Jean Paul Gaultier collection for Target, and unlike previous collections offered up by high-end designers like
Rodarte and Zac Posen, I actually like this one. And apparently I’m not in the minority on the Rodarte/Target disaster. Pieces are still on the racks, even at sale prices. The Mulleavy sisters may have the ability to sell to their moneyed clientele, but pieces aimed at the masses failed miserably. Anyway.
Back to Gaultier, the other bad boy of fashion (besides the brilliant Alexander McQueen—R.I.P. Lee). Gaultier is, even in his high-end designs, cheeky and interested in pushing the envelope. So his collection for Target mirrors this general direction, and I think it will be the first Target collaboration since Libertine that is actually worthy of the hype. I’m totally coveting the trench and leather jackets, the tattoo-shirt and leggings, the classic JPG nautical stripe shirt, and that fab little one-piece bathing suit.
Look for Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection at your local Target and target.com between March 7 and April 11, 2010.
