Adopt A Cute Military Veteran — A Military Working Dog!

dog3

If you are considering getting a dog, please consider adopting. I recently learned about the Military Working Dog Foundation, which assists the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Center in finding dog2suitable homes for military working dogs that become available for adoption because they are no longer capable of performing their military duties. Because on occasion, dogs are available for distribution to police departments and other law enforcement agencies, the Foundation’s mission is also to help this process involving law enforcement K-9 units. In most cases, the dogs made available to law enforcement would make excellent working dogs, but due to time restraints, the military is unable to continue training them. The dogs available for private adoption are not your ordinary house pets. They are anything but ordinary. They have served in protecting our country or have been to military K-9 ”Boot Camp” and are pooch1very special animals. The foundation’s goal is to aid the MWD Center in finding appropriate homes for the working dogs available for private adoption to the public, former handlers and other persons capable of properly caring for these dogs as well as law enforcement agencies having a special requirement for a trained K-9.

Adoption animals pull hard enough on my heart strings, but these heroic dogs which have served our country pull even harder! If I had a yard and a bigger home, I would definitely get one, as German Shepards are so intelligent and as much as I love my Maltese Scarlett, she’s more of a lover than a fighter. It would be nice to have a dog to keep me safe. If you’re interested in adopting one of these brave, heroic dogs, click here!

  1. What a nice post to bring around some awareness of this need. Many years ago we had the good fortune to adopt a K9 dog who flunked out. He was a great dog, but also a bit of a goofy dog at times, thus his ousting from the K9 program ;-) He was the guard dog at my father’s business for many years, mainly as a scary noise box and not a attack or “protection” animal. He was so well behaved and mostly obedient, but he did have a few quirks, one being napping on top of my father’s desk on top of all of the paperwork. It was quite a sight to see.

A belated Happy New Year Andrea. Best to you in 2010.
