What is a Southernista?

A Southernista is the modern woman living in the Southern United States. To truly describe what she is, first we must tell you what she is not. She is not the archetypal Southern Belle. While the belles of yesterday were the epitome of hospitality, flirtatious, yet chaste and cultivated beauty like a gardener cultivates prize winning roses, today is a different story. We have moved on from parasols and garden parties (even though they can still be a lot of fun) to sipping cosmos and attending college football games (Florida-Georgia comes to mind because it is the world’s largest outdoor cocktail party, after all).

The Southernista still upholds those ideals, but today she is a heady combination of intelligence, wit and charm. She is educated, whether by self or university, and a force to be reckoned with in matters of business. She is a philanthropist. She is married, single, a sister, a mother. The Southernista is not defined by color or social class. To be a Southernista, you don’t have to be born Southern. Just embrace the way of life in the area you have made your home and have a desire to make it a better place with your actions and words.
