Great Tailor in Washington DC Area
Dear Miss A,
I have been living in DC for years and have yet to find a decent tailor. Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks,
Kelly
Dear Kelly,
I am very diligent about inputing all the contact information from business cards I receive. I think I have about 5,000 contacts in my Blackberry. When I hear someone mention a great tailor, or an amazing shop or restaurant, I also make note of it. Back in 2006, a co-worker at DCI Group showed me a gorgeous dress which was made by Fareida Dosky at Westover Custom Shop. My co-worker loved a particular Oscar De La Renta dress, and didn’t want to pay full price for it, so she bought the pattern and gave it to Fareida. Fareida created it for $600, but it looked like a million bucks. I knew right then and there, that if I ever needed a tailor, I would go to Fareida. I asked for Fareida’s information, as I knew this information would come in handy in the future.
I later recommended it to a good friend of mine who used her to do work on a wedding dress. My friend couldn’t stop raving about how great Fareida was to work with, and was so thankful to me. I suppose I’m blessed in that I’m pretty proportionate, and don’t require much tailoring. Although I have not personally used Fareida, I have seen her work. And if she can create an Oscar De La Renta, and do what she did to my friend’s wedding gown, I know she can handle any alterations that come her way.

I am very picky about my alterations. I like the tailor at Montgomery Mall–they do the best jean’s hems in town. Also the tailor next to Pines of Rome restaurant in Bethesda. I think it is called Modern Tailors. It is in the dry cleaners. He is excellent.
