The Magical Power of Chanel Cosmetics

 Chanel Winter ad

Chanel’s Winter 2009 Ad

You have to take a look at this post from France 24’s Observers. It started out as a Chinese girl’schanel cosmetics “how to” video, but is a clear demonstration of the magical power of Chanel Cosmetics, which I love. And no, Mr. FTC, this is not a paid plug for Chanel. It truly makes you question what we find beautiful and why.

It reminded me of another great video,  which shows the transformation a model undergoes.

While some will see the negative, and complain about how the media is making women feel they have to live up to an unrealistic definition of beauty, I see the positive side, and what a powerful transformation a woman can make. Women can change their look and take on different styles depending on mood. Like wealth, beauty is powerful. Like holding on to wealth, holding on to beauty takes work. With the right diet, right exercise, and a some time doing hair and makeup a woman can make herself look amazing…if she wants it enough to put in the time, and of course wants to pay the price.  There is always a price. Always a choice.

Perhaps we shouldn’t care what we or others look like. Perhaps we should all throw out makeup and eat everything we want without care, but bottomline is that other people DO judge us and make assumptions based on how we look and carry ourselves. And we DO judge others on appearance…even if we ourselves don’t want to be judged. It’s a shame. We know we shouldn’t. But it happens in reality. And has for 1,000’s of years, so we shouldn’t feel guilty about it.

Feel free to comment and share your thoughts.

  1. I absolutely love this post Andrea! You’re so right! Makeup can truly be defined as an artistic expression of self in so many different ways. I love playing with makeup and have since I was old enough to reach my mom’s vanity. We do get judged on how we look, regardless if we are willing to admit it or not. Afterall, first impressions are made before one even begins to speak. And, although I think media has played a large role in our perceptions of others’ appearances, we ourselves, are our own worst critics. The fact is, when you feel sexy, you look sexy.

My only counter-argument would be how you, yourself, define beauty. You are saying that you pay a price for it – the right diet, exercise, hair, etc. I can understand and agree but I also think what goes missing in this post is confidence – something you may not have to pay for. I know women who aren’t as thin as rails but their confidence is so alluring, men trip over themselves. At some point, you have to be confident and comfortable with who you are and that = sexy! Just my two cents :-)

  2. Very true on the self-confidence! It’s very sexy in men and women. Intelligence and sense of humor are also sexy in my opinion. Thanks so much, Nichole.
