Washington Life Social Calendar
Washington Life Magazine has always been my favorite magazine in Washington. I think it truly is the premier lifestyle magazine in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It has been around far longer than Capitol File or DC Modern Luxury, and its publishers are not only well-connected, but also life-long Washingtonians who have their pulse on what is happening in town, and have an understanding of the finer nuances of Washington society.
Recently, Washington Life has blended their unique view of Washington with the functionality, and effectiveness of today’s social media and internet technology. Their website, which was created by my friend, Peter Corbett of iStrategyLabs is phenomenal. I played a tiny part, by introducing Washington Life’s Executive Editor, Michael Clements who had the vision for the website to my friends Mark Drapeau and Peter. And the rest is history!
Several years ago, I kept a Social Calendar of all events that young Washingtonians were attending. I got information from City Tavern Club, University Club, The Madison, Capital Club, Junior League of Washington and various nonprofits like the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s 1869 and compiled a calendar. This kept groups from having their galas and events on the same night. My social calendar has fallen by the wayside, as other things have taken priority in my life, but I still think it’s important for event planners to consider the events that others have planned when scheduling their party.
What I now recommend, is that everyone post their events to Washington Life’s Social Calendar, and check it to see if competing events are taking place on the night you are considering hosting a party. I have added the Washington Life Social Calendar widget to my Social Calendar page. The only events I post are events in which I am personally involved. I get many requests to blog about fundraisers and other events, but if I am not personally committed and involved with the charity, or planning the event for a client — I will not post it. If you are looking to spread the word about your event, please post it on Washington Life’s Social Calendar.

Thanks Andrea! Look for a feature article from me on the use of social technology after the Iranian elections in the next issue of WL!
