Fashion for Paws 2009

Scarlett and I had a great time at Fashion for Paws this year. First, let me thank all the folks who donated to the Washington Humane Society on my behalf! You all helped me raise about $4,500 for the WHS! Thank you so much for your support and generosity! I hope everyone had a blast Saturday night. I wish that I would have been able to catch up with all of you at Fashion for Paws, but it was packed and Scarlett was dehydrated and exhausted so we left shortly after the show.

I’d also like to thank my friend and Mistress of Ceremonies, Pamela Sorensen for the very kind introduction she gave me. She mentioned that my former Maltese, Gatsby had passed away since the last Fashion for Paws and introduced my new puppy, Scarlett. I was so happy to have my mother and her friend, Jo Sarazen in town for the event from North Carolina.

I would like to thank my mother for being such a great role model to me over the years, and for giving me a love of fashion. For those you don’t know, my mother had a career as a fashion designer for my grandfather’s clothing line in The Netherlands. She has designed and sewn some amazing pieces over the years! Many people asked about the one-shoulder dress I wore to Fashion for Paws on Saturday night. It is actually a dress my mother purchased in Europe decades ago. Like much in life, fashion is cyclical. Ladies, this is a reminder that we should all buy quality pieces, and hold on to them!

I would like to thank all those whose work went into making me look fabulous for the event. First, I’d like to thank my friend and new client, Keith Lipert of Keith Lipert Gallery for selecting the perfect pieces of jewelry to go with my attire! It’s always so fun to visit Keith! He has a great eye, and always knows just what piece will make the look! The necklace I borrowed was a huge hit!

I’d also like to thank Roche Salon’s Nigitsi, who I first met in 2001 and has been with me through the worst and best of times for giving me the perfect shade of blonde and for incredible styling!  I would also like to thank the talented, Giannina who is a makeup artist with Armani at Saks Fifth Avenue – Chevy Chase .

I would like to thank Stacey Vaeth Gonzalez for photographing the event for me! I asked her to focus on the dogs and doggie couture for my client, Barkley Square which provided all the handmade clothing and accessories for the dogs. Stacey’s photography is incredible. Much like me, Stacey gave up her day job to follow her bliss. She is now doing what she loves — photography! I highly recommend her as a photographer!

(See photograph at left where he’s fixing my outfit.) He’s always a huge help to me and is a wonderful friend!
