Pink Slip Party Tonight At Lotus Lounge

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, a close friend of mine who is a recruiter attended a job fair in Baltimore a month or so ago, and told me how depressing it was to see so many well-qualified professionals searching for work to pay their family’s bills. These were people who previously had great jobs at Fortune 500 companies. Though we like to think that the D.C. metro is insulated from the current economic crisis, thousands of people are being affected in our community.
To try and help a bit, I am hosting a Pink Slip Party tonight at Lotus Lounge. The response that I have received from recruiters, job seekers and national media has truly been incredible. I am expecting roughly 40 HR professionals, hundreds of people who are finding themselves unemployed due to companies closing their doors or down-sizing, and several news organizations to be on hand to cover this event.
I hope that this will be an opportunity to for folks in similar situations to gather together and realize that they are not alone. Seeing so many others coping with loss will help these professionals realize it’s not their fault, and that they do not need to feel ashamed. In addition to having a chance to commiserate, professionals will network to share leads and ideas.
