The Winner Is…The American Red Cross!

Pamela Sorensen of Pamela’s Punch and Tommy McFly of Mix 107.3 having fun while auctioning off O.A.R. autographed Gibson guitar!

Slumdog Millionaire won in an Oscar-landslide last night! While Oscars were being awarded in Hollywood, movie lovers across the nation gathered at 52 Oscar parties officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The American Red Cross of the National Capital Area is the nonprofit which has the honor of hosting Washington’s officially sactioned event. In other cities, the charities selected range from finding cures for disease to helping children.

The American Red Cross of the National Capital Area helps people in the community prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies that may be local, state-level, national, or international in nature. Not only do they help families who have lost a home in a fire, but they welcome our injured troops home when they arrive at Andrews Airforce Base on their way to Walter Reed. Many may not know that they are mandated by Congress to provide food, water, shelter to our community in case of a terrorist attack or natural disaster but are NOT funded.

Last night’s fundraiser was a huge success! Pamela Sorensen and her co-host, Dave Marra did an amazing job leading the host committee and planning the event. I don’t think we yet know how much the event raised, but we do know that it will exceed what was raised last year! Stephanie Green, reporter for The Washington Times wrote a nice piece on our event, and even included a quote from me about the love affair between Washington and Hollywood.

Columnist and Radio Talk Show Host, Janet Donovan put a fun slide show up on her blog titled, “Hollywood on the Potomac”, which you should check out to get a feel for the event. Here are some photos that I took at Oscar Night DC!
