Follow Up: Blonde Charity Mafia

For those who don’t read the Washington Post and aren’t on LateNightShots, the media has picked up on my post about how the Blonde Charity Mafia group name came to be, and how I found out that the name of the reality show would be “Blonde Charity Mafia”. I was surprised to see that the newspaper of the nonprofit world, The Chronicle of Philanthropy picked up the story. I’ve always had such great respect for The Chronicle of Philanthropy. It’s an amazing resource, and a great way to search for a job with a nonprofit.
Some felt I shouldn’t have written the post, but many people had asked me about it, so I felt I should put my perspective out there. Lifetime and the girls on the show will have an opportunity to use a much louder voice and reach a much larger audience with their spin on it. I was a little taken aback by Katherine’s comments in the Post. I’m no closer to her age than that of her mother. I think we both came across as a little cattier than anticipated. We all approach charities differently, but at the end of the day we are all working toward the same common charitable goal.
Again, I wish the girls well with the reality show. I may no longer be a role model for Katherine Kennedy, but she will no doubt become a role model for many young women. I hope that she takes advantage of the tremendous opportunity she has to make volunteering look “cool” and “fun”, which will hopefully bring in a whole new generation of girls into volunteer work. I’ve always found volunteering very rewarding, and have met so many wonderful men and women through my experience. I highly recommend it.
As silly as the name Blonde Charity Mafia is, I wasn’t
the only one to put the words “blonde” and “mafia” together. Apparently, there is a Blonde Mafia clothing line by Bridget Marquardt of the TV show “The Girls Next Door” about the lives of Hugh Hefners three girlfriends. This is a bit ironic as the last time I dressed up for Halloween, I dressed up as a Playboy bunny from the 1960’s. That was back in 2005. When I turned 35, I decided there would be no more dressing up for Halloween. I might dress up my dog, or perhaps a child one day, but Halloween costumes are now a thing of the past for me.

Please be advised that “Blonde Mafia Charity” is a Federally Registered mark in all categories including entertainment. I would like to find out who is exactly responsible for this television show and how I may contact this Ms. Kennedy. I am going to file a order for cease and desist on her immediately in Federal Court if I don’t have a response within 5 business days.
