Cocktails & Cupcakes – benefiting Innocents at Risk
Deborah Sigmund attended The Courage Cup’s Meadow Matches event this past June with her husband Donald, and guest Kate Marie Grinold, who is Miss DC 2008 and who is currently working for Deborah’s nonprofit, Innocents at Risk. Debbie saw my work on The Courage Cup, and has asked me to get involved to help her with her nonprofit, Innocents at Risk. Innocents at Risk is is a child-advocacy non-for-profit 501C-3 organization established to fight child trafficking through awareness programs aimed at educating the public of these crimes. They have established a public-private partnership with the United States Department of State to support their battle. Their two-fold goals are: to prevent human trafficking and modern day slavery. We plan to help those who have already been victimized. By creating a public awareness campaign, we will generate awareness of the crime and raise funds that build safe havens where victims can live after being rescued.
Kate Marie Grinold will be leaving Washington soon to participate in the reality TV show, “Miss America Reality Check”.
Kate has been so moved by her work at Innocents at Risk, that she has taken human trafficking as her national platform issue.
Please join me and others on the host committee at this fundraiser at City Tavern Club next Wednesday, September 3rd from 6 – 9pm to raise money and awareness for Innocents at Risk, as well as toast to Kate and wish her the best with her Miss America endeavors!
