Dear Miss A,
My girlfriend and I want to get married, and I plan to propose before the holidays. I asked her to go take a look around and let me know what kind of ring she likes best, but she insists that I surprise her and pick out an engagement ring on my own. I’ll be honest, I know nothing about jewelry. I’ve only bought her a couple of David Yurman pieces that she wanted, and I really don’t know where to begin. She says she likes the round and the cushion cut, but that’s all she has told me. I don’t think she even knows which shape she likes best. I’m worried that I’m going to get her the wrong thing. Where do I even begin?
Dear Perplexed Pete,
I really feel for you and other men who have to figure out what a woman wants in an engagement ring. I know it’s not easy, but one jewelry designer is making it easier for men.
On August 13th, Tacori launched their Gentleman’s Guide to Engagement website. They will help you figure out her engagement ring style by answering a few simple questions. Ladies, give it a try and let me know how close it comes to choosing a ring you’d be excited to receive.
There is also an Engagement Matrix with videos which discuss how much to spend, the diamond shopping process, tips on the proposal, and what to look for in a diamond. Even if you aren’t into the Tacori look, I think that this website is a great place for a guy to start the engagement ring and proposal process.
