Dear Miss A,
You are always giving advice on other people’s rings. I’m curious, if you could design your dream engagement ring, what would you design? Also, are you dating anyone?
Dear Curious Cate,
Thank you for your question. Being that I have seen hundreds of different settings, and hundreds of different diamonds while working for in this business, I am aware of many more options for an engagement ring than I was before working here. More options makes choosing one design more difficult. One thing I have noticed is that most of the ladies who work with me choose round brilliant cut diamonds in a simple platinum solitaire setting when they design their own ring. The round brilliant definitely sparkles more than any other shape, and a simple platinum solitaire setting will hold up better than other options over time. I also see several of my co-workers going for diamonds over 3 carats, and sacrificing clarity for size. They will go with an SI1 or SI2, because with that clarity you can’t see the natural clarity characteristics with the naked eye, and why pay for clarity when it’s not something you will enjoy and see anyway. You will see size, color and cut. So, this is what I am seeing my colleagues who have been in the business for decades purchase. Is this what I would want? I’m not sure.
The round brilliant cut, while beautiful hasn’t brought me good luck in the past. Perhaps the third time will be the charm, and perhaps…I should go with another cut.
And of course, before I think about any of this, I need to find the right guy. And as I’ve mentioned in previous postings, I would gladly accept a CZ ring from the right guy. It’s not about the ring. It’s not about the wedding. It’s about finding the right person with whom to spend your life, and build a future together.
No, I am not dating anyone, and am not even open to dating anyone at this time. I have a number of interesting career opportunities that I am working on, and am still focused on building The Courage Cup as a charity. I don’t plan on dating until I find someone as interesting to me as the work I am doing.
