A Ring for Jenna Bush

The President will take on a new role today- Father of the Bride, as
his daughter Jenna marries Henry Hager. Jenna Bush opted out of a
glamorous White House wedding which would have been the first since 1971 in
favor of laid back Texas tradition in her wedding at the Bush’s 1,600 acre
Crowford ranch. Henry is the son of John Hager, who was an Assistant Secretary of Education in Mr. Bush’s administration and is now the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia. The couple has purchased a modest
house in Baltimore where Jenna will work as a teacher and Mr. Hager will
work for Constellation Energy.

Henry proposed to Jenna at sunrise on August 15, 2007 after an early
morning hike to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in
Maine. It is rare to marry the daughter of a President, but it’s not that
rare to propose with a family diamond. It was his great-grandmother’s old
European cut round diamond. He had the diamond repolished which is often
necessary as the old European cuts don’t usually have the brilliance that
we are used to in the modern round brilliant cut. Henry
took the advice of Jenna’s sister Barbara who hinted that she’d like the
diamond flanked by 2 blue sapphires. The engagement ring also has tiny
round brilliant-cut diamonds, which are prong set within a channel of the platinum
ring.

  1. Your story about Jenna Bush reminded me – I have a ring that I picked out a few years ago. I loved it at the time, but my taste has since matured. I’m not crazy about the setting so I never wear it. I figured one day I would get around to having it reset, but it’s not a very valuable piece so I’ve been putting it off becuase I’m not sure whether resetting it would be worth the expense.

Can Mervis do this work, even if it’s not an expensive piece of jewelry? Will the jeweler be able to give an estimate in advance so I know whether or not it’s worth it to reset the ring?
